Why DentaCell (Venture Experience & History)

The DentaCell team has more experience working with stem cell therapies than any other dental tissue banking service in the USA.

The Founders previously invented the first stem cell delivery catheter in the 1988 (patented in 1997). Developed the first stem cell harvesting system from adipose tissue – 1994. Completed the first non-surgical stem cell regeneration of damaged heart tissue – 2001. Was the first in the world to gain FDA approval to conduct Phase I and II/III stem cell and stem cell gene therapy clinical trials for treating heart damage (2003 2007 2009 2010).

The DentaCell contract tissue banking and stem cell expansion facility with Bioheart, Inc. a public company founded by the same founders of DentaCell in Sunrise, Florida has been cGMP certified since 1989 (World Medical Mfg. Corp.) for medical implant manufacturing, since 2001 for stem cell expansion and since 2013 for tissue banking. See References below. Bioheart, Inc. has spent more than $140 million to develop the safety of stem cell processing, expansion storage, shipment, delivery and handling since 1999.

Both DentaCell and Bioheart, Inc. are supported by the Leonhardt Ventures’ Cal-X Stars Accelerator Scientific Advisory Board made up of over 35 leading stem cell researchers – http://calxstars.com/scientific-advisory-board/

Stem Cells in Teeth

The tooth is nature’s ‘safe’ for your family’s unique stem cells

While stem cells can be found in most tissues of the body, they are usually buried deep, are few in number and are similar in appearance to surrounding cells. With the discovery of stem cells in teeth, an accessible and available source of stem cells has been identified.

The tooth is nature’s “safe” for these valuable stem cells, and there is an abundance of these cells in baby teeth, wisdom teeth and permanent teeth – Tooth Eligibility Criteria. The stem cells contained within teeth are capable of replicating themselves and can be readily recovered at the time of a planned dental procedure.

Living stem cells found within extracted teeth were routinely discarded every day, but now, with the knowledge from recent medical research, DentaCell gives you the opportunity to save these cells for future use in developing medical treatments for your family.

Stem Cells in Teeth

Medical Benefits of Dental Stem Cells

Aside from being the most convenient stem cells to access, dental stem cells have significant medical benefits in the development of new medical therapies. Using one’s own stem cells for medical treatment means a much lower risk of rejection by the body and decreases the need for powerful drugs that weaken the immune system, both of which are negative but typical realities that come into play when tissues or cells from a donor are used to treat patients.

Further, the stem cells from teeth have been observed in research studies to be among the most powerful stem cells in the human body. Stem cells from teeth replicate at a faster rate and for a longer period of time than do stem cells harvested from other tissues of the body.

Stem cells in the human body age over time and their regenerative abilities slow down later in life. The earlier in life that your family’s stem cells are secured, the more valuable they will be when they are needed most.

Tissue Banking & Stem Cell Expansion Service

Tooth tissue banking is the storing of dental stem cells that have the ability to regenerate into various cell types. When your child’s tooth or your own tooth falls out or is extracted, dental stem cells are harvested from the dental pulp within the tooth. Baby teeth and wisdom teeth are rich in dental stem cells. These cells within the pulp are a valuable source of highly regenerative stem cells. These dental stem cells are preserved indefinitely by being cryogenically frozen.

Why Bank Teeth?

Banking dental stem cells gives you access to today’s therapies and tomorrow’s medical breakthroughs. Secure your cells today with DentaCell Tooth Pulp Storage for future expansion.

Dental pulp is the soft living tissue inside a tooth. Stem cells are found inside the dental pulp. Dental pulp stem cells retain the ability to renew themselves by dividing and can change into specialized cells.

Dental pulp stem cells, are being used only in laboratory settings at this time. While mesenchymal (MSC) cells are currently used in procedures such as bone marrow transplants, MSC cells from dental pulp are not yet being used for medical treatments.

  • Cardio Myocytes which have the potential to repair damaged cardiac tissue following a heart attack.
  • Myocytes which have the potential to repair muscle.
  • Osteocytes which have the potential to generate bone.
  • Chondrocytes which have the potential to generate cartilage.
  • Neuronal which have the potential to generate nerve and brain tissue.
  • Adipocytes which have the potential to generate fat tissue.

Stem cells in dental pulp were discovered in 2000 by Dr. Songtao Shi, a dental researcher at the National Institute of Health (NIH). After verification that these cells were in fact.

We know that stem cells from the late 1980’s are still viable. In fact, most research indicates that stem cells frozen through a slow-rate process and stored with liquid nitrogen are viable for an indefinite period.

Dental pulp stem cells can be harvested without controversy, in an inexpensive, non-invasive manner, unlike bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cell collection. These methods of stem cell recovery can be both painful and expensive. Umbilical cord blood, another source of stem cells, is a once in a lifetime opportunity at birth. Umbilical cord blood stem cells recovered are typically only used in disease treatment.

Dental pulp collection is simple and poses no risk to the client. The tooth is either extracted or is harvested when it falls our naturally. Next a sterile transport medium is used to ship the tooth to the DentaCell contracted laboratory @ Bioheart, Inc. Sunrise, Florida. DentaCell removes the dental pulp from tooth, processes, and then cryogenically preserves and stores the stem cells.

It is important to have your dentist or oral surgeon work with you to harvest a healthy tooth for preservation because with their help, you will be able to remove the tooth while a good blood supply is still present. If the tooth is allowed to fall out at home, there is less possibility of finding viable stem cells.

We offer detailed instructions on collecting dental pulp without a collection kit on hand. These instructions can be faxed or e-mailed to your dentist. In an extreme emergency the tooth may be stored in milk in your refrigerator for a BRIEF period of time.

Our worldwide shipper picks up from the dental office as soon as the tooth is extracted. The kit is then immediately shipped to our laboratory and the tooth is processed promptly.

DentaCell’s processing technique via Bioheart, Inc. in Sunrise, Florida follows the FDA guidelines of minimal manipulation (until expansion is requested later). The stem cells are prepped for slow-freeze by using a cryoprotectant which prevents damage. The cryoprotectant is washed out of the stem cells in the thawing. Research has shown that this methodology is the most successful in terms of cell recovery.

Stem cells are stored individually in a sealed cryo-container. The cryo-container is designed specifically for long-term cryogenic storage. The container is coded and then placed in a jacketed vapor tank cooled by liquid nitrogen. This type of cooling method prevents all cross contamination. One-hundred percent of the processed cells are preserved for you and nothing is withheld for our use, a procedure unique to DentaCell via Bioheart, Inc.

Our cryogenic facility maintains multiple levels of security. This includes back up alarm systems, 24 hour on-call staff, 24 hour temperature monitoring, and a liquid nitrogen system with backup generators for un-interrupted power and backup systems that do not require electricity.
