New research initiative combines phosphatidylcholine and choline support with bioelectric signaling, BodStim™, Klotho-Up™, AMPK, Sestrin and Sirtuin pathways to target age-related mitochondrial decline

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — August 25, 2026 — Lionheart Health, Inc. and Leonhardt Ventures LLC today announced the launch of the MitoCell™ / PC-Up™ Bioelectric + Phosphatidylcholine Mitochondrial Restoration Program, together with a new provisional patent application directed toward combination approaches for improving mitochondrial health, cellular energy production and healthy aging.

The new research program was inspired in part by emerging research indicating that phosphatidylcholine (PC), an essential component of cellular membranes, declines with aging and that this decline may contribute to deterioration in mitochondrial structure and function.

Recent preclinical research has reported that supplementation with choline or phosphatidylcholine can restore phosphatidylcholine availability and improve measures of mitochondrial structure and function in aging experimental models. These findings have not established reversal of human aging and require further clinical validation.

Lionheart intends to investigate whether supporting phosphatidylcholine availability can be combined with the company’s existing bioelectric and healthy-aging platforms to produce complementary effects on mitochondrial function.

MitoCell™ / PC-Up™ Research Platform

The planned research program may evaluate combinations of:

  • Phosphatidylcholine and/or choline nutritional support
  • BodStim™ whole-body electrical muscle stimulation
  • Klotho-Up™ healthy-aging protocols
  • Bioelectric signaling programs targeting AMPK
  • Sestrin signaling
  • Sirtuin signaling

  • Photobiomodulation and other complementary mitochondrial-support modalities

The objective is to investigate mitochondrial aging from two complementary directions: supporting the structural lipid environment of cellular and mitochondrial membranes while simultaneously stimulating cellular pathways involved in energy metabolism, stress resistance, autophagy and mitochondrial maintenance.

Objective Testing Rather Than Claims Alone

Lionheart plans to integrate the MitoCell™ / PC-Up™ program into its expanding mitochondrial research efforts with objective measurements that may include:

  • Phosphatidylcholine lipid species and comprehensive lipidomics
  • Choline and betaine metabolism
  • PC/PE membrane lipid ratios
  • Mitochondrial ATP-production capacity
  • Mitochondrial DNA copy number
  • Cellular respiration and oxidative phosphorylation measurements where feasible

  • Inflammatory and oxidative-stress biomarkers
  • Muscle strength and physical-performance testing
  • Biological-age and healthspan biomarkers

The research team intends to examine both baseline-to-treatment changes and longitudinal responses to determine whether measurable improvements in phosphatidylcholine status correlate with improvements in mitochondrial function.

New Provisional Patent Application

Leonhardt Ventures LLC has filed a new provisional patent application covering aspects of the MitoCell™ / PC-Up™ platform, including combinations of phosphatidylcholine/choline support with bioelectric stimulation and modulation of cellular pathways associated with mitochondrial maintenance and healthy aging.

Potential embodiments include combinations incorporating Klotho, AMPK, Sestrins, Sirtuins, electrical muscle stimulation, targeted bioelectric signaling, nutritional compounds, regenerative biologics and other complementary mitochondrial-support technologies.

The companies will continue evaluating the patent landscape and prior art as the program advances. The scope of any future patent protection will depend upon patent-office review, novelty, non-obviousness and other applicable requirements.

Building on the Klotho-Up™ Platform

MitoCell™ / PC-Up™ is designed to complement Lionheart Health’s broader Klotho-Up™ healthy-aging research platform, which focuses on improving functional healthspan with particular emphasis on muscle health, brain health, immunity, metabolism and regenerative capacity.

The new research arm adds membrane lipid biology and mitochondrial phosphatidylcholine homeostasis as another area of investigation.

Planned Research

Lionheart Health anticipates developing a prospective research arm comparing its existing healthy-aging platform with an enhanced protocol incorporating phosphatidylcholine/choline support.

The company intends to use the resulting data to determine whether the approach warrants expansion into larger controlled clinical studies and eventual incorporation into Lionheart Health’s commercial healthy-aging programs.

The MitoCell™ / PC-Up™ program remains investigational. No conclusions have yet been established regarding its ability to prevent, treat or reverse aging or age-related disease in humans.
