HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — August 27, 2026 — Lionheart Health, Inc. announced that its E‑Stent™ bioelectric stimulation platform, previously introduced for regenerative medicine applications throughout the body, is being adapted for investigational use in vision regeneration and the treatment of eye-pressure-related ailments.

The original E‑Stent™ platform combines a miniature implant containing embedded micro-coils or electrodes with an externally worn wireless controller. The system is designed to deliver precisely controlled bioelectric signals directly to targeted tissues. E‑Stent™ devices may range from micro-implants smaller than a pea to larger vascular stents, depending on the intended application.

For ophthalmic development, Lionheart Health is evaluating a miniature Eye E‑Stent™ configuration intended to support two major objectives:

  • Vision regeneration research focused on retinal health, optic-nerve protection, improved microcirculation, inflammation management and activation of the body’s natural repair pathways.
  • Eye-pressure management research focused on supporting aqueous-humor drainage, tissue elasticity and healthier function of the eye’s natural outflow structures—areas associated with ocular hypertension and glaucoma.

The development program will evaluate localized bioelectric signaling sequences intended to influence biological pathways associated with neuroprotection, circulation, extracellular-matrix remodeling, inflammation control, cellular recruitment and tissue repair. The company also plans to study whether the technology can complement Lionheart’s existing EyeCell™ platform and other noninvasive modalities, including externally applied bioelectric stimulation, photobiomodulation and regenerative biologics.

The ophthalmic E‑Stent concept may be engineered for placement near an appropriate eye drainage structure or other targeted tissue, subject to anatomical, engineering, safety and regulatory review. Potential future versions may incorporate pressure sensing and feedback-controlled stimulation, creating a closed-loop system capable of adjusting therapy in response to measured conditions.

Lionheart believes the program could eventually address several related areas of research, including:

  • Ocular hypertension and elevated intraocular pressure
  • Glaucoma-related optic-nerve injury
  • Reduced ocular microcirculation
  • Retinal and optic-nerve degeneration
  • Inflammation and fibrosis affecting aqueous outflow
  • Recovery support following selected ophthalmic procedures
The E‑Stent™ platform was originally developed by the Leonhardt Ventures research and engineering team in Irvine, California, led by CTO Brian Lasater and Howard Leonhardt. Lionheart Health is now advancing the vision-focused adaptation through its ophthalmic and organ-regeneration development programs.
 
The new ophthalmic eStent is designed to complement Lionheart Health’s EyeCell™ and EyeCell SKaphor™ products by adding a minimally invasive structural component to the company’s multimodal vision-restoration platform. While the eStent is being developed to help improve aqueous humor outflow and support healthier intraocular pressure, EyeCell™ applies targeted bioelectric stimulation intended to activate regenerative signaling, improve local circulation, reduce inflammation, and support optic-nerve and retinal health. EyeCell SKaphor™ products are designed to provide a supportive scaffold and regenerative microenvironment for localized delivery and retention of cells, biologics, or other therapeutic agents. Together, these complementary technologies are intended to address fluid-pressure management, tissue repair, cellular signaling, and sustained regenerative support as part of a comprehensive ophthalmic treatment strategy.

The company plans to proceed through engineering development, benchtop validation, preclinical testing and properly authorized clinical research. Lionheart Health will also evaluate additional intellectual-property filings covering the ophthalmic configuration, placement methods, stimulation sequences, sensing capabilities and combination protocols.
